How we actually review a game here
People sometimes ask how a small site like ours decides on scores, so here's the honest version. There's no formula and no spreadsheet with magic weightings. There's a person who plays the game and writes down what they felt.
Every game gets installed and played past the tutorial, into the part where design either holds or crumbles. First impressions are unreliable. Plenty of games open beautifully and fall apart by hour three, and a few, like Casinacho Win, grow on you the longer you stay.
We try to name our biases openly. Some of us love slow strategy, some can't stand grind, and knowing that helps you read our scores correctly. A 4.2 from someone who hates racing games means something different than from someone who loves them.
We don't chase release-day coverage. If it takes a week to form a real opinion, it takes a week. Being late and right beats being first and wrong.
In the end a review is one informed opinion, not a verdict. Read a few, find the writers whose taste matches yours, and trust your own thumbs.
